Box Score KAMLOOPS, B.C. - A second-straight loss to TRU on Saturday night has cost UBCO the men's Cup. With the weekend sweep, the Thompson Rivers University WolfPack have won the 2019-20 President's Cup. The Cup is a battle between all the Canada West sports teams from TRU and the University of British Columbia Okanagan.
Saturday night (Jan 25) at the Tournament Capital Centre, the WolfPack swept the visiting UBCO Heat 3-0 for the second straight match. The scores this time around were 25-16,25-21,25-20.
Thompson Rivers moves to 5-13 on the season while the Heat are now winless in 16 matches.
TRU was led offensively again by rookie outside hitter Nimo Benne. He had 14 kills in 30 opportunities with two solo blocks, one block assist, and two digs. Charlie Bringloe had 13 kills in 22 chances with two service aces, a dig, and two block assists.
Samuel Elgert had 26 assists, three service aces, four digs, and three block assists. Kyle Behiels had a solid game. He had five kills in nine swings with two service aces, four block assists, and a dig.
UBCO was led by former WolfPack setter Denham O'Reilly. He had 10 kills in 19 attempts with four digs and two block assists. Morgan Nicholls had 23 assists with three digs and a block assist.
Max Heppell and Cam Vanderveen each had six kills. Heppell had 21 opportunities while Vanderveen had 20.
The WolfPack outblocked UBCO 10.5 to 7.5 and they outdug the Heat 25-19.
Thompson Rivers captured the Presidents Cup with four wins (2 volleyball, 1 basketball, 1 soccer) and a tie (soccer) to go along with three losses (basketball and two cross country).
This was "Bell Let's Talk about Mental Health" night at the TCC where fans got blue "Bell toques" and were encouraged to write messages of support of mental health, take selfies and post them.

Next week, the WolfPack have a bye. They will then visit Edmonton, Alberta for back to back matches with the MacEwan Griffins (Feb 7-8). Their next home match will be on Friday, February 14th when they will entertain the first-place Trinity Western University Spartans. Game time will be at 5 p.m. at the Tournament Capital Centre.
The Heat will entertain MacEwan at "The Furnace" next weekend (Jan 31-Feb 1).
