Scott Koskie named assistant coach with Volleyball Canada’s U19 program

Heat men’s volleyball head coach will be on the bench for the NORCECA U19 Men’s Continental Championship set for May 12-17 in Burnaby, B.C.

KELOWNA, B.C. – UBCO Heat men's volleyball head coach Scott Koskie will be donning the Team Canada red and white again this summer as he's been named the assistant coach for Volleyball Canada's U19 team.

Koskie's appointment marks the second consecutive summer he's served in a coaching capacity for Volleyball Canada since joining the Heat. Last year, he was an assistant coach with the NextGen team that captured a bronze medal at the NORCECA Pan Am Cup.

"It is always an honour to represent Canada, and I am very proud to serve as an assistant coach with the men's U19 program this season," said Koskie on the opportunity. "I am grateful to have the chance to work with the talented group of athletes and staff who make up Team Canada volleyball."

Koskie is fresh off a record-setting season for the Heat men's volleyball program in which he guided them to a team-record 15 wins and a program-best national ranking of number three in the U SPORTS Top 10. He brings a wealth of international experience to the U19 team, having played 320 games for the men's national team and winning a bronze medal at the Pan Am Games. He's also served in a variety of coaching capacities with the national program since 2010.

Koskie and Team Canada are in Kelowna this week running their pre-event camp at the UBCO Gymnasium ahead of the NORCECA U19 Men's Continental Championship. That event will be held in Burnaby, B.C., at the SFU West Gym from May 12 to 17.

"It is extra special to host the training at UBCO and I greatly appreciate the support of our campus community to make this possible," added Koskie. "I was fortunate to compete for Canada for many years and to work with these young men as they begin their international journey is something that is important to me. We have had a great week of training so far and are looking forward to competing in Burnaby at the 2026 Boys U19 NORCECA Continental Championships next week."

The U19 Men's Continental Championship will consist of two pools of four teams. Canada is in a pool with Barbados, Costa Rica and Mexico. Canada's first scheduled game is on May 12 at 8:00 p.m. PDT against Barbados.

The United States is in a pool with Dominican Republic, Panama and Puerto Rico. The tournament's first game is at 2:00 p.m. PDT featuring United States against Panama.

Tickets for the tournament are available through Eventbrite and live streaming will be available on YouTube and CBC Sports.
