Foot's Bay, Ont. – The UBCO Heat men's golf team are fresh off a tournament, competing at some of the top programs in US collegiate golf.

As a group, the Heat shot a combined +55 to place 10th at the 2026 Canadian Collegiate Invitational that took place from Sunday to Tuesday at the Oviinbyrd Golf Club.

"It was an amazing experience," said head coach Clay Stothers. "The course was an amazing test of golf, and the hospitality was something our team will not forget. We learned a lot about where our game is at and how it stacks up against the best. We are extremely grateful for being able to participate and this has definitely made us better for the future."

Ryan Gillis led the Heat, finishing nine strokes over par. His final-round score of 74 (+3) was also UBCO's best showing on the final day of competition as golfers battled cold and rainy conditions, with only two of individuals at the whole event shooting under par in the round.

The Heat saw multiple competitive showings in the first round to begin the competition as Oakley Mayner and Chris Jo each carded rounds of 72 (+1), while Gillis opened with a 73 (+2).

The overall tournament was won by the New Mexico Lobos as they finished five strokes under par, which put them 10 ahead of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, who placed second, and 17 strokes ahead of the third-place Santa Clara Broncos.

To earn a spot in this prestigious competition, the Heat won the 2026 Canadian University/College Championship in June. 

Stothers and the rest of the team will be back in action on Monday, Sept. 28 and Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Bellingham, Wash., for the Western Washington Invitational.
