As the fall season heats up, five teams are in action, with women's soccer making their home debut as both soccer teams host the UBC Thunderbirds and the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack, while cross country competes in Fast Days of Summer 5000 at Rail Trail. Meanwhile, softball heads to Calgary.

Following a great season and their third straight postseason appearance in Canada West, the Heat will look to build on their momentum as they kick off the regular season with a pair of tough matches, going toe-to-toe with the UBC Thunderbirds at Nonis Sports Field on Friday night and the Thompson Rivers Wolfpack on Sunday.
Last weekend, the Heat played a preseason match against the Trinity Western Spartans as a final tune-up for the season. With a strong group of returning players, including seniors Nina Louis (Vancouver, B.C.), Eleni Georgacacos (Calgary, Alta.), Megan Sun (Langley, B.C.), Annabelle Walker (Calgary, Alta.), and goalkeeper Allyson Ford (Thunder Bay, Ont.), the team brings experience and familiarity heading into a new campaign.
The Heat went 1-1 in their last two games against the Wolfpack last October, and will look to settle the score in Sunday's match against the interior pack as they kick off the Presidents' Cup race. UBCO has won five straight Presidents' Cup titles, and women's soccer will look to help extend that streak with an early edge this weekend.

Men's soccer (0-2) remains at Nonis this weekend, looking to pick up their first point of the season as they take on the Thunderbirds (2-0) and Wolfpack (2-0). UBC and Thompson Rivers currently sit in the top two spots of the Canada West Pacific Division as the season gets underway.
Last weekend, first-year midfielder Will Armitage of Vancouver, B.C made his first career start and scored the team's first goal of the season in the home opener against the Trinity Western Spartans in the 29th minute, finishing with two shots on goal across 90 minutes of play. He followed that performance with his second straight start on Saturday, playing all 75 minutes against the Victoria Vikes. His sensational play earned him this week's UBCO Athlete of the Week honours.
As they kick off the race for the Presidents' Cup against Thompson Rivers, the Heat will be seeking redemption after falling just short in their matches last October, dropping 2-1 and 3-1 decisions, despite having swept both matches in the 2024 season.

Men's and women's cross country will begin their 2026-27 season this weekend in Kelowna with the Fast Days of Summer 5000, an event set as a fundraiser to support the program as they prepare for the Western Washington Invitational in Bellingham later this September.

Softball heads out to Calgary for an action-packed, five-game weekend against WCSA opponents. The Heat are currently the only undefeated team, holding a 3-0-1 record and sitting in first place. Calgary sits in second at 2-1-0, followed by Saskatchewan and Regina both also at 2-1-0, while SAIT is eighth at 0-3-0.
In the 5-4 match against Lethbridge last Saturday, fourth-year catcher Kamryn Allin hit a homer, driving in three runs, to give the team the lead late in the contest. The following day, during their 13-8 victory against Lethbridge, first-year pitcher Jayda Labonte was a strikeout machine, surrendering just one hit to nine batters she faced across 2.2 innings, striking out six and walking none. In their 7-5 victory over Mount Royal, Labonte struck out six of the 13 hitters she faced in a two-inning appearance, with a strikeout total of 12 over 4.2 innings and was named a UBCO Athlete of the Week.
UBCO enters the weekend with a 7-0-1 conference record against SAIT and a two-game win streak against Calgary after taking both games 8-1 and 6-0 last October. In their Sunday matchups, the Heat also hold a positive all-time record as they are 14-3 against Regina, highlighted by a 16-5 victory in their most recent meeting, and 11-4 against Saskatchewan, where they are currently riding a six-game win streak.
