Julia Alexander-Carew finishes tied for second at NCAA Division II event as Heat finish five shots out of first place

DUPONT, Wash. – The UBCO Heat women's golf team got their 2025 fall schedule off to a strong start this week as they finished third in the team standings at the Grisham Memorial Shootout, hosted by the Saint Martin's Saints at The Home Course.

Facing NCAA Division II competition for the first time this year, the Heat fired the second-best round of the day during Wednesday's second round, a five-over par 293, to move up from fourth to third. In total, UBCO finished at 20-over par 596.

The Simon Fraser Red Leafs won the tournament at 15-over par 591 while the Western Washington Vikings finished second at 19-over par 595.

Leading the way for the Heat was third-year standout Julia Alexander-Carew who fired a final round of one-under par 71 to tie for second place at one-over par 145 with three other golfers.

The result means that Alexander-Carew has finished first or second in the individual standings in seven of her last eight events representing the Heat dating back to her rookie season in 2023-24.

Rookie Shinyao Zhang had a strong start to her UBCO career as the Gatineau, Que., native finished at three-over par 147 to tie for seventh place.

The Heat will now turn their attention to the OUAZ Fall Invitational in Surprise, Ariz., their final event before the Canada West Championships. The OUAZ Fall Invitational is set to run from Monday, October 6 to Tuesday, October 7 at the Sterling Grove Golf and Country Club.
