Heat golf teams sweep team titles at RMC Intercollegiate at Lake Las Vegas

At NAIA event in Nevada, UBCO men and women claim team gold medals as Julia Alexander-Carew adds another individual title to her name

HENDERSON, Nev. – For the second time this season, the UBCO Heat women's and men's golf were both victorious at an NAIA event south of the border as they both captured the team titles at the 2026 RMC Intercollegiate at Lake Las Vegas, hosted by the Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears at Reflection Bay Golf Club.

The Heat women captured their second title of the season, after winning the OUAZ Fall Invitational in October, on the strength of another individual victory of Julia Alexander-Carew. The third-year golfer won her eighth tournament with UBCO as she finished at two-under par 214, twelve shots ahead of teammate Lauren Nedo, who finished solo second at 10-over par 226.

Alexander-Carew showed little signs of rust in her first competitive rounds since early November. After opening with a round of four-over par 76, she went two-under par 70 in round two, firing four birdies and a double-bogey.

Wednesday's third round was even better as she carded six birdies and a double-bogey to shoot four-under par 68.

Nedo, playing in her fifth-year, also improved with each round, opening with a six-over par 78, before shooting three-over par 75 in round two and one-over par 73 in round three.

Fellow fifth-year Emily Cornwall joined Alexander-Carew and Nedo in the Top 10, finished tied for tenth after shooting 28-over par 244.

As a team, the Heat combined to shoot 71-over par 935.

UBCO's victory was also significant in that it marked the first time in program history that the Heat finished ahead of their sister-school rivals, the UBC Thunderbirds, in a tournament both were entered in. UBC finished second overall, 14 shots behind the Heat at 85-over par 949.

The host Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears were third at 117-pver par 981.

Meanwhile, the Heat men found the top of the podium for the third time this season after also winning team gold at the 2025 Canada West Championship and the OUAZ Fall Invitational.

After sitting five shots off the lead following the opening round, UBCO had the low round in both the second and third round to win the title by four shots over the USAO Drovers. The Heat finished at nine-over par 873, with the Drovers second at 13-over par 977.

In a strong all-around team performance, second-year Ryan Vest of Vernon, B.C., was one of four Heat golfers to finish inside the Top 17. Vest finished tied for fourth at ever-par 216, just three shots off the lead.

Like his team, Vest was consistent over three rounds, opening with a one-over par 73, before carding rounds of even-par 72 and one-under par 71 in rounds two and three.

Andrew Rouble and Ryan Gillis joined Vest inside the Top 10 with Rouble finishing solo seventh at two-over par 218 while Gills tied for tenth at four-over par 220.

Rookie Oakley Mayner of Kelowna tied for 17th at seven-over par 223.

The Heat will return to Kelowna before heading back to Nevada next week to compete in the Las Vegas Warrior Invitational on Wednesday, March 11 and Thursday, March 12 at the Legacy Golf Club in Henderson.
