Men's soccer drops road contest against Cascades

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's soccer team had their losing streak extended to three games on Sunday as they lost a hard fought contest 2-0 against the UFV Cascades.

During a well-matched first half, the Heat and Cascades took turns keeping possession and creating chances on net.

The game would remain scoreless until late in the contest when the Cascades managed to slip in two back-to-back goals in the 76th and 79th minute, sending the Heat back home without a point. 

TOP PERFORMERS

Jacobo Saenz Ramos - UBCO Heat

Saenz Ramos, a second-year from Monterrey, Mexico, kept the Cascades defenders on their toes as he was a presence for UBCO. Ramos, who constantly looked for open space behind defenders, gave the Heat more opportunities in the Cascades end with two shots on goal.

Manpaul Brar - UFV Cascades

Brar, a fourth-year forward from Surrey, B.C., was a force up top for the home squad all afternoon, finishing the game with a goal and an assist.

WHERE THEY SIT

Following the loss on Sunday, the Heat's record dropped to 0-3-1, as they sit tied for sixth place in the Canada West Pacific division. As for the Cascades, their record improved to 1-1-0, as they moved ahead of the Heat and into a tie for fourth in the division.

UP NEXT

The Heat will now have a bye week before returning to action on Sunday, September 18th as they go back on the road and play the MacEwan Griffins at Clark Stadium in Edmonton. Kick off is set for 12:30 p.m PT and the match can be seen live on Canada West TV.
