Spicker's stoppage time tally propels men's soccer past Timberwolves

Box Score

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – UBC Okanagan Heat men's soccer forward Owen Spicker picked the ideal time to score his first career goal on Friday afternoon as his stopped time tally proved to be the difference maker in a 1-0 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves at Masich Stadium.

Spicker, a native of Langley, B.C., who subbed into the game in the 78th minute, got on the end of a perfect feed from Felix Jones of Kelowna, B.C., and made no mistake to give the Heat their first win of the season.

Prior to Spicker's heroics, the story of the game, once again, was the play of veteran keeper Nicholas Reitsma. The Kelowna, B.C., native was spectacular between the woodwork all afternoon, turning aside the Timberwolves on multiple occasions in the second half.

Reitsma ultimately finished the contest with four saves to record his second clean sheet of the year and 11th of his career.

Daniel Zadravec of Victoria, got the start in goal for UNBC and finished with two saves in a losing effort.

With the win, the Heat improve to 1-1-3 on the season and temporarily move into a tie with the UBC Thunderbirds in Canada West West division standings.

As for the Timberwolves, they fall to 0-4-3 on the year.

The two teams will square off once again on Saturday to wrap up their season series. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. and the game can be seen live CanadaWest.tv presented by Co-op.
