RECAP: TWolves, Heat play to third consecutive scoreless draw

Box Score

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - When the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves and UBC Okanagan Heat face off, goals are tough to come by. Today's clash in Prince George was no different, as the Pacific Division rivals played to their third consecutive scoreless draw, Saturday, October 13, 2018.

It was the Heat who generated the better of the chances in the early going, as Nikhil Reddy found the ball in the box in the sixth minute, but rang his shot off the post behind Rob Goodey.

"I had that chance, and I should have buried," said Reddy postgame. "That ended up burying us. They are well coached, and they're really organized in the back, so those chances are tough to come by."

The Timberwolves pushed back, generating a pair of opportunities around Heat keeper Nicholas Reitsma. Owen Stewart and Michael Henman earned those looks, but UBCO did well to clear the ball out of harm's way.

At the half, neither coach made a substitution, each hoping their side would do enough to get on the board. Chances were hard to come by, however, with both Reitsma and Goodey doing enough to maintain a clean sheet.

The Heat did press in the final ten minutes, and had opportunities from Jimmy Steel and Luke Warkentin, but to no avail.

"Their pressure was high and their work rate was good," said Gordon Hall postgame. "It definitely surprised us, but they communicate very well. They move the ball and defend properly."

"That press helped us numerous times, as we won balls in the third," said Reddy. "We will keep on the press, keep working, and we have to win tomorrow."

With the draw, the Heat sit 2-6-5, while the Timberwolves are 4-3-5 on the Canada West season. The two sides rematch tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Masich Place.

"I think we need to be more patient, moving the ball side to side," said Hall. "Maybe we can open them up a bit, and create more chances."
