EDMONTON, AB- The UBC Okanagan Heat and the MacEwan Griffins played to a scoreless draw in Canada West men's soccer competition Sunday afternoon.

Although both teams remained scoreless at the final whistle, there were strong chances for either side. Heat keeper Mitch McCaw had to make 5 saves in the match, and Griffins keeper Dylon Powley had to make six stops. It was McCaw's third clean sheet, and Powley's first of the 2016 campaign.

The best chance of the afternoon for the Heat came in the 68th minute. Freshman defender Spencer Young blasted a shot on goal after a long spring up the left wing, but Powley was able to make the save.

UBC Okanagan had the edge in the offensive statistic categories, getting off 10 shots to MacEwan's nine in the match, with shots on goal being 6-5 in favour of the Heat.

MacEwan gave their MVP of the match to third year Griffins defender Bryce Prochnau, and UBC Okanagan named first year midfielder Corbin Beauchemin their MVP.

The UBC Okanagan Heat (3-3-2) will have their next match on Saturday, October 1 when they travel to Prince George to play the University of Northern British Columbia Timberwolves (2-7-1) in the first match of a double-header that weekend. The MacEwan Griffins (0-5-3) will play their next match next Saturday as well, when they visit the University of Calgary Dinos (6-2).
