EDMONTON – Three members of the UBC Okanagan Heat track team competed at the Pandas Open this past weekend with third-year runner
Basil Parkins leading the way with some strong results.
The third-year management major opened his meet with an eight-place finish in the 1000m race. Parkins ran nearly two seconds under his seed time, crossing the line in two minutes, 33.50 seconds to pick up a single point for the Heat in the race.
Then on Saturday, Parkins finished sixth in the 600m race, posting a time of 1:24.58, earning another two points for UBCO.
Teammate
Lucas Robertson, a second-year science major, also picked up a single point in the race for the Heat, finishing eighth in 1:27.05.
A day earlier, Robertson had earned a 19
th place finish in the 1000m after a time of 2:40.65.
The women's team had a single runner at the event as
Sharanya Vijayaraghavan competed in both the 600m and 1000m. She finished 14
th in both events.
The Heat will close out the track season at the Canada West Championships, hosted by the Regina Cougars, on Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22 in Regina.
