EDMONTON – Three members of the UBC Okanagan Heat track team competed at the Pandas Open this past weekend with third-year runner Basil Parkins leading the way with some strong results.
 
The third-year management major opened his meet with an eight-place finish in the 1000m race. Parkins ran nearly two seconds under his seed time, crossing the line in two minutes, 33.50 seconds to pick up a single point for the Heat in the race.
 
Then on Saturday, Parkins finished sixth in the 600m race, posting a time of 1:24.58, earning another two points for UBCO.
 
Teammate Lucas Robertson, a second-year science major, also picked up a single point in the race for the Heat, finishing eighth in 1:27.05.
 
A day earlier, Robertson had earned a 19^th place finish in the 1000m after a time of 2:40.65.
 
The women's team had a single runner at the event as Sharanya Vijayaraghavan competed in both the 600m and 1000m. She finished 14^th in both events.
 
The Heat will close out the track season at the Canada West Championships, hosted by the Regina Cougars, on Friday, February 21 and Saturday, February 22 in Regina.
