Heat soccer teams set to open 2025 season on home turf

UBCO’s women’s and men’s teams will face UBC and Victoria at Nonis Field when varsity action returns to campus on Friday, August 29

KELOWNA, B.C. – The UBC Okanagan Heat women's and men's soccer teams will open their upcoming Canada West regular season campaign on home turf on Friday, August 29 as the conference released the 2025 season schedules for both sports on Monday.
 
The Heat women, who reached the Canada West quarter-finals for the second straight season a year ago, will kick off against the Victoria Vikes while the men tangle with their sister-school rivals, the UBC Thunderbirds, in a Friday night doubleheader.
 
The two teams will flip opponents on the Saturday, with the women facing the reigning national-champion Thunderbirds followed by the men squaring off with the Vikes.
 
This year's Canada West schedule will see the women play 14 regular season games, including seven at home, all against opposition from within the Pacific division. UBCO will face each opponent twice, with an extra game scheduled against both the Thunderbirds and UNBC Timberwolves.
 
Other highlights from the women's schedule will see the Heat and Thunderbirds square off on Homecoming weekend, Friday, September 19, in a highly anticipated showdown in front of alumni, students and supporters at Nonis Field.
 
Coach Craig Smith's squad will celebrate their Graduating Seniors in their final home game of the regular season on Sunday, October 12 against UNBC. That matchup will be followed by a Presidents' Cup doubleheader against the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Saturday, October 18 and Sunday, October 19 to close out the regular season.
 
The top four teams in the Pacific division will then advance to the Canada West quarter-finals set for Oct. 24 to 26, with the Final Four hosted by the highest remaining Pacific Division team from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2.
 
On the men's side, this year's conference schedule will see the Heat play 16 games, including eight at home. The team will face each of their Pacific division rivals twice, along with four cross-over games against the Prairie division, including home games against the Calgary Dinos and Lethbridge Pronghorns on September 12 and 13.
 
The Heat will also host the UNBC Timberwolves on Saturday, October 4 and Sunday, October 5 followed by a trip up Highway 97 to renew renew their Presidents' Cup rivalry with the Thompson Rivers WolfPack in Kamloops on Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11.
 
UBCO will wrap up their regular season at home, featuring their Graduating Seniors Celebration on Sunday, October 19 when they face the Trinity Western Spartans.
 
The top four teams in the Pacific division will then advance to the Canada West quarter-finals and semifinals set for Oct. 24 to 26, with the Gold Medal game to be played the following weekend.
