KELOWNA, B.C. – The UBC Okanagan Heat basketball teams will tip off their upcoming Canada West regular season on home court against their rivals, the Thompson Rivers WolfPack, on Friday, October 24 as the conference announced the 2025 season schedules for both sports on Wednesday.
The Heat and WolfPack, who will be renewing their Presidents' Cup rivalry at UBCO's home opener, will be one of seven games to feature on the conference's opening night.
This year's Canada West schedule will see both the Heat men's and women's teams compete in 20 games, including 11 at home. 18 of the team's 20 matchups will come against Pacific division rivals, with the teams facing the Mount Royal Cougars as their lone crossover matchup with the Prairie division.
Following their home opener, UBCO will embark on their longest road trip of the season as they play their next five matches away from Kelowna, including a weekend doubleheader away to the reigning national champions, the Victoria Vikes, on October 31 and November 1.
The teams return home for a weekend doubleheader against the UNBC Timberwolves on November 14 and 15. After a trip to Langley, B.C., to face the Spartans the following weekend, the Heat will close out their first term schedule with a showdown against their sister-school rivals, the UBC Thunderbirds, on November 28 and 29.
Term two will see the Heat open on the road against the WolfPack as they close out their Presidents' Cup competition with a pair of games in Kamloops on January 9 and 10.
The subsequent weekend, the Heat kick off a six-game homestand to close out the regular season. The Mount Royal Cougars will be in town for a pair of games, with the marquee matchup that weekend featuring the women's teams battling in a School Day Game at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 16.
After visits from Victoria and Trinity Western on January 30 and 31 respectively, the Heat will wrap up their regular season on home court with a weekend doubleheader against the UFV Cascades on February 6 and 7. The two teams will celebrate their Graduating Seniors on Saturday, February 7 with the women tipping off at 4:30 p.m. followed by the men at 6:30 p.m.
The top five teams from the Pacific division will then advance to the Canada West single elimination postseason that begins on February 13. The Canada West Final will be held the weekend of February 27 and 28.
This year's U SPORTS women's national championship is headed to Quebec City, hosted by Laval from March 5 to 8, while the Calgary Dinos will welcome the men's tournament from March 6 to 8.
