BUCKEYE, Ariz. – The UBCO Heat men's golf team earned their fifth podium finish of the fall season on Wednesday as they finished third at the Firestorm Fall Invitational, an NAIA event hosted by the Arizona Christina Firestorm at the Verrado Golf Club.
Entering the third and final round of the event in fifth place, the Heat moved up two spots on the leaderboard as they combined to shoot five-under par 283 to leapfrog fellow Canada West competitor, the Victoria Vikes, and Oregon Tech.
Leading the charge in the third round was second-year
Ryan Vest as he shot four-under par 68, highlighted by five birdies and just one bogey. That performance moved him up the leaderboard by 11 places to finish at two-under par 214, good for solo eighth place.
Chris Jo contributed to the rise up the standings with a final round of one-under par 71, moving up 14 spots on the leaderboard to finish in 33rd at seven-over par 223.
Ryan Gillis found his way into the top 20 on the leaderboard after he shot even-par 72 in the final round to finish at two-over par 218, good for 17th.
Meanwhile, rookie
Oakley Mayner and
Andrew Rouble finished tied for 23rd at four-over par 220, shooting even-par 72 and two-over par 74 on the final day respectively.
The tournament represents the final event of the fall for the Heat who will resume their schedule in the spring.
