KELOWNA, B.C. – UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball middle
Ashton South is set to represent his country as he has been named to Volleyball Canada's U21 team for the summer 2024 season.
South, a native of Calgary, was one of 14 players selected to the team that will represent Canada at various NORCECA (Continental) Championships and Pan Am tournaments. In the process, he becomes the third member of the UBCO program to be named to the U21 team, joining current teammate
Renn Petryk of Edmonton, who was named to the team last year, and Eli Risso who was named to the national junior team back in 2016.
South, a 6-9 middle, is coming off the best season of his Heat career in 2023-24. Playing in 18 matches and appearing in 56 sets, he recorded 63 kills, while hitting an impressive .344 percent. He also posted a career-high 42 total blocks, including six solo blocks, as he averaged 1.59 points per set over the course of the year.
His best performance of the past season came on January 19 against the rival Thompson Rivers WolfPack when he recorded a career-high 12 kills, hitting .476 percent, to go with seven blocks in a 15.5-point performance over five sets.
