Box Score KELOWNA, B.C. – The UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer team got their season off on the right foot on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the UNBC Timberwolves by a score of 1-0 at Nonis Sports Field.
Amanda White of Ottawa scored the lone goal in the match, putting away a tap in from close range after a great set up by Abigail Taneda of West Kelowna, B.C., in the 24th minute.
UNBC would have opportunities to respond but the stellar play of Molly Race of Vernon, B.C. kept the Timberwolves off the scoreboard to pick up her first clean sheet of the season.
TOP PERFORMERS
Abigail Taneda - UBCO
Taneda, a second-year forward, was excellent on the field, earning one assist while helping to drive the offence all afternoon. She would play the full 90 minutes on a very hot day in Kelowna.
Paige Payne - UNBC
The fifth-year forward from Kitimat, B.C., had a very good opening game for the visitors as she tallied 3 shots on goal.
WHERE THEY SIT
The win on Saturday afternoon puts the Heat's record at 1-0-0 as they sit in a tie for second in the Canada West West division. The UNBC Timberwolves fall to 0-0-1, and sit tied for seventh place in the West division.

The Heat will be right back at it on Sunday, September 4th as they stay home and play the Calgary Dinos at Nonis Sports Field. Kick off is slated for 12 p.m and tickets to the game are free for all fans.
