Georgacacos nets brace as Heat rally for draw in season finale

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Maria Georgacacos scored twice in the final eight minutes, including the equalizer in the dying seconds, as the UBCO Heat women's soccer team rallied from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw with the UNBC Timberwolves on Sunday. The brace pushed her season total to eight goals on the season, the second-highest single-season mark in program history.

Georgacacos led all players with eight shots, putting five on target, while Megan Sun set up the equalizer. Allyson Ford went the full 90 minutes in goal and made three saves.

Aimee Glasser had a hand in both Timberwolves goals, scoring one and setting up the other while putting four of her five shots on target. Sophie Postlethwaite opened the scoring, while Johanna Rathke kept the hosts in front for most of the afternoon with 10 solid saves.

Despite controlling much of the opening half, the Heat went into the break down 2-0. Postlethwaite headed the Timberwolves in front in the fourth minute, and Glasser doubled the lead in the 26th by capitalizing on a Heat giveaway. The Heat pressed for a response with 10 shots and seven corners, including a sustained spell of set-piece pressure, but couldn't solve Rathke early on.

The Heat kept up the pressure after the break, outshooting the Timberwolves 10-1 and holding the hosts to a lone off-target header. Georgacacos pulled one back in the 83rd minute, pouncing on a bouncing ball in the box after a set piece, then completed the comeback in the dying seconds by heading home Sun's corner.

The result means UBCO finishes the season with a 2-9-3 record, sixth in the Canada West Pacific division. Sun, Ford and Nina Louis all played in their final matches with the Heat.

Game notes:
