Georgacacos brace not enough as WolfPack pull away late

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The UBCO Heat dropped a 4-2 decision to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Friday, despite a second-half brace from Maria Georgacacos that erased a two-goal deficit. The WolfPack answered with two late goals to take the win at home.

Georgacacos made both of her attempts count, finding the back of the net twice, while Ainsley Kirk and Neala Peters each set up one of her goals. Peters also put her one shot on goal, while Allyson Ford made eight saves between the sticks.

Leading the WolfPack with two goals on two shots, Sophia Branby scored their decisive third goal, while Allison Hill chipped in a goal and an assist and put three of her four attempts on target. Joss Olcen opened the scoring, and Macyn Jolly set up a goal of her own with an assist.

The WolfPack struck first in the 11th minute, when Olcen unleashed an outside-of-the-foot shot from distance off a feed from Hill. The Heat had their chances, earning three corners and putting three of their five attempts on target, but Floor Ursem turned aside every one as the WolfPack carried a 1-0 lead into halftime.

A well placed strike from well outside the box doubled the lead for the WolfPack, but the Heat responded with two goals in less than eight minutes to tie it up. Peters won a challenge and fed Georgacacos, who calmly slotted home in the 68th minute before she completed her brace in the 76th, tapping one in from from a goal-line scramble as Kirk was credited with the assist. The WolfPack regained the lead through Branby's game-winner shortly with a header, while outshooting the Heat 9-5 in the half. Ford tried to keep the Heat in it with five saves.

The Heat wrap up their weekend and regular season in Prince George, B.C., against the UNBC Timberwolves on Sunday, Oct. 25, at noon.
