Women's soccer shut out by Mount Royal

The Heat closed out their two-game weekend road swing through Alberta with a 2-0 setback against the Mount Royal Cougars.

KELOWNA, B.C. – The UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer team concluded their two-game weekend road swing through Alberta with a 2-0 loss to the Mount Royal Cougars on Sunday afternoon.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first half, but early in the second half the Cougars capitalized on a goal from Monet Alonso-Cruz of Chestermere, Alta., in the 60th minute of the match.

The Cougars kept applying pressure on the Heat and it resulted in another goal, this time by former Heat Catriona McFadden of Calgary, in the 67th minute of the match.

The excellent play of the Cougars defence made it difficult for the Heat to gain momentum throughout the afternoon as UBCO was held to just one shot on goal.

TOP PERFORMERS

Megan Sun – UBCO

Megan Sun, the first-year forward from Langley, B.C., was a presence for the Heat all afternoon and recorded the team's lone shot on goal.

Catriona McFadden – MRU

The second-year forward had a fantastic day recording six shots, two shots on goal and scoring the Cougars second goal of the match.

WHERE THEY SIT

The loss on Sunday afternoon puts the Heat's record at 1-3-2 as they remain in seventh spot in the Canada West Pacific division. As for the Cougars, the victory was a crucial one for them as they vault into a tie for top spot in the Prairie division at 3-2-1.

UP NEXT

The UBC Okanagan Heat will be back in action on Friday, September 23rd as they come back home to play the UFV Cascades at Nonis Sports Field. Kick-off is slated for 5 p.m and tickets to the game are free for all fans.
