Box Score LANGLEY, B.C. - For the second time in as many nights, the TWU Spartans would score early and often topping the UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team 96-69 Saturday at the David E. Enarson Gymnasium.
In the process, Trinity would set a new program record for scoring, topping their old record of 93 points in a game, set back in January of 2017.
Leading the offensive barrage for Trinity Western was Nicole Fransson, who was coming off a 21 point double-double a night prior. The product of Edmonton, Alta., capped off her strong weekend with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and seven assists.
The Heat had a trio of players in double-digit scoring in the loss. Jaeli Ibbetson, of Kelowna, B.C., had a team-high 12 points and seven rebounds. Vancouver's Surprise Munie had 11, while Italian import Alessia Brutto chipped in with 10 points.
After an impressive 50 percent field goal percentage the night before, the Spartans continued their efficient scoring ways going 37-of-76 from the floor including 8-of-16 from three-point land. A different story emerged for the Heat who, from beyond the arc, shot 1-of-11 in Saturday's loss and 14.2 percent over the weekend.
UBCO's third straight loss sees them fall to 6-9 on the year. Meanwhile the Spartans hold on to their position in first place in the Canada West West division at 12-2.
The Heat will not have to wait long for a chance at vengeance as the two teams play their third and final regular-season matchup against one another this Thursday in Kelowna. The game is slotted for 5 p.m., and the doors at The Furnace open 30 minutes before tip-off.
