LANGLEY, B.C. – The UBCO Heat women's basketball team held their own against Texas Tech Lady Raiders on Monday night, dropping a 72-52 decision as the opened their 2026-27 preseason schedule at the Langley Events Centre.
The Heat, who were taking on their second NCAA opponent in program history, led 16-13 after the opening quarter, and won two quarters overall in the matchup against Lady Raiders, members of the Big 12 Conference in Division I.
Kanani Coon led all scorers for UBCO with 10 points while
Sydney Lewis added seven points and seven rebounds. Lilly Pink chipped in with seven points as well and rookie guard Shae Sandhu scored five points in her Heat debut.
Texas Tech, who were playing their second Canada West opponent in as many nights after defeating the UBC Thunderbirds 69-42, were paced by Rhema Collins who finished with 14 points.
The Heat's lone previous matchup against an NCAA opponent was against the Nevada Wolf Pack back in 2023-24.
