Box Score KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Jaeli Ibbetson got to the line early and often as she hit 12-of-16 attempts from the charity stripe en route to an 89-51 win for the UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team over the Thompson Rivers WolfPack Saturday at the Tournament Capital Centre.
After losing a lead in the second half of yesterday's match, UBCO bounced back in a big way, fueled by Ibbetson's 23-point, 15-rebound performance. Her 23 points tied a career-high for the third-year forward as she posted her third double-double of the season.
All 11 players who hit the court for the Heat found the scoresheet, including Vancouver's Surprise Munie who poured in 16 points off 60 percent shooting. Three-point specialist Kasey Patchell of Kelowna, B.C., chipped in with 12 off the bench, going 3-of-4 from beyond the arc.
Kyla Smith, of Abbotsford, B.C., had a team-high 17 points in the loss for the 'Pack.
Head Heat Bobby Mitchell was impressed with his team's response on Saturday saying, "The players really stepped up. It's a good way to go into the break and bringing home the President's Cup is an added bonus."
The win was also one for the record books for the Heat as their 89 points marks the most they have ever scored in Canada West competition.
The win also clinched a Presidents' Cup victory for the UBCO women's teams as soccer, basketball and volleyball now own a 4-1-2 head-to-head record over their rivals from Kamloops.
The Presidents' Cup is the annual competition between UBCO and TRU that was established in 1993 between the Presidents of then Okanagan University College and University College of the Cariboo. The win marks the the third time the Heat have won one of the two trophies awarded each season since it was restablished in 2014, as they also won the women's competition in 2014 and 2017.
As for each team's record, the win pulls UBCO to an even 4-4, good for fourth place in the Canada West West division while TRU falls to 1-7 on the year.
The Heat are now into their holiday break with no games until a January 13th matchup against UBC Thunderbirds.
