Box Score KAMLOOPS, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team were sunk by a tough fourth quarter as they fell 77-60 to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Friday evening at the Tournament Capital Centre.
TRU were determined to get their first victory of the season, overcoming an 11-point deficit from the first half in the comeback win, including outscoring the Heat 26-9 in the final quarter.
The loss, however, did not come without strong showings from the Heat squad as Kelsey Falk, of Vernon, B.C., grabbed an impressive 11 rebounds in the first half alone, totalling a career-high 19 in the game. The third-year guard's fifth double-double in seven games this year also included 13 points, five blocks and two steals.
Vancouver's Surprise Munie led the Heat in scoring with 16 points.
Megan Rouault, hailing from Vernon, B.C., had a game-best 23 points for the host WolfPack, hitting all four of her attempts from beyond the arc. Falk's stand-out performance on the boards was nearly matched by TRU's Anneke Cairnie, who pulled down 16 rebounds while also chipping in with nine points in the win.
UBCO would attempt a season-high 28 threes in the game but were outdone by the WolfPack's 52.8 percent mark from long-range.
Thompson Rivers shot 41.8 percent from the field topping UBCO's 30 percent.
Coming off the bench from the Heat, Aiko Williams of North Vancouver, played a season-high 17 minutes, recording 12 points off 40 percent shooting. She set a new career-high in scoring as she is gaining the trust of the coaching staff.
The loss drops the Heat below .500, to 3-4, while the win for TRU is their first of the season, bringing them to 1-6 on the year.
The match also had important implications on the annual President's Cup between the rival schools. The matchup now sits at 3-1-2 in favour of UBCO.
