Box Score VANCOUVER - UBC Thunderbirds forward Danielle Steer recorded her second three-point performance in as many nights to hand the UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer team their third consecutive loss, this time a 4-0 setback at Thunderbird Stadium.
The visiting Heat put up a resilient effort in the second half but it was not enough to overcome the three-goal deficit from the opening 45 minutes. The No. 4 nationally-ranked Thunderbirds come away for the two-game set with their perfect 8-0-0 record intact.
Danielle Steer, put the Thunderbirds up in the 7th minute, scoring her fourth goal of the weekend off an intercepted back pass. The fourth-year from Surrey, B.C., would add her second of the game in the 34th minute putting the home side up two.
Vanessa Tome, also from Surrey, B.C., would add to UBC's lead in the 40th minute, putting the Thunderbirds up three at the half on a goal assisted by Steer.
Jade Taylor-Ryan's (Ottawa) insurance goal in the 88th minute was UBC's fourth goal, it also marked the first of her career.
Tsawwassen's Ciana Dawydiuk-Clozza checked into the game for the Heat in the second half marking her first Canada West appearance. She nearly capitalized on a through ball by Erica Lampert in the 78th minute but was stumped by UBC's Sarah Johns of Calgary.
Lampert, a senior from Prince George, led the attack offensively for the Heat with three shots.
Between the pipes, Johns won the goaltending battle for UBC with three saves while recording her third clean sheet of the year. For the Heat, Vernon's Molly Race also made three stops in her eighth straight start.
The loss drops the Heat's record to 0-5-3 on the year as they close out the road portion of their schedule with an 0-5-1 record.
UBCO now heads home for their final four games of the season. First up is a visit from the Victoria Vikes on Friday, October 15th and Saturday, October 16th. Both games are set for 11 a.m. at Nonis Sports Field.
