Box Score PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. - In a tight-fought and physical affair Friday night, the UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer picked up a 1-1 draw the the UNBC Timberwolves at Masich Place.
The Heat would get up early in the second half off an own goal by the Timberwolves but UNBC would battle back to tie the game with a second-half goal of their own.
The Heat's lone goal would come off a broken play. Jessica Ambrosio fired a pass inside the box and it would be deflected into the Timberwolves' net by a UNBC defender. Ambrosio, a Burnaby, B.C., native, made her 30th start as a member of the Heat and finished the game with one shot on target.
UNBC's marker came off the foot of third-year mid-fielder Kiana Swift in the 75th minute. Hailing from Sooke, B.C., Swift has been a steadfast player for the 'Wolves, playing all but 20 minutes for the squad this season.
Between the pipes for the Heat, Vernon's Molly Race made six saves in picking up her third draw of the season. Her counterpart Brooke Mobly, from Squamish, B.C., had seven stops.
UBCO would finish with 10 shots, eight on target. The home side directed 20 shots Race's way, and were credited with seven on the mark.
The Heat's record moves to 0-2-3, while UNBC's goes to 0-4-3 on the year.
Both teams will have another chance at their first wins of the season in a rematch tomorrow night in Prince George at 6 p.m. Catch all the action live on Canada West TV presented by Co-op.
