First home match in more than a month:

  • Friday night's match will mark the first home game for the Heat since Jan. 5th as they have been on the road for three weekends while having an open weekend where Regina was slated to play in Kelowna.
  • Last time out UBCO fell in straight sets on both nights to the potent-attack of the ranked Alberta Golden Bears in Edmonton.
  • The Heat are looking to close out strong in front of their home crowd this weekend and earn that elusive victory.

Senior Spotlight:

Brennan Goski:

  • The 6'2 outside hitter from Moose Jaw, SK transferred in from the University of Regina for his final season as done an outstanding job on the outside all season long.
  • In his first and only year on the team, Goski sits second on the team with 141 kills averaging 2.52 per set and has provided great leadership on this young Heat squad all season long.
  • Making 16 starts on the season, Goski went for double digits in kills in half of those outings.
  • His best match for UBCO this year was at Saskatchewan where Goski went for a double double with a season high 16 kills and 10 digs.
  • In his time with Regina, the outside hitter had 504 kills with the Cougars, including 241 last season.
  • Goski will use his credits earned at UBCO this year to finish his Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Regina with a major in social studies and a minor in physical education.

Presidents' Cup:

  • Volleyball marks the final portion of the UBCO vs TRU university competition across Canada West sports and the 'Pack hold the advantage going into the final leg up 3-1.
  • The Heat will need to sweep the weekend series to send the Cup contest to a tiebreak of total points for total points for and against in each of the competing sports, otherwise the 'Pack will hang on to the hardware.
  • For full history on the competition and for the scoring matrix you can click here.

Head to head with Thompson Rivers: (5-9)

  • Sweeps have been a common occurrence in this matchup, as six of the seven seasons these teams have met up has resulted in one team winning both matches in the weekend series.
  • Last year it was TRU held serve on their home court and also won in Kelowna as the home-and-home series went four sets on both occasions.

Scouting the WolfPack

Playoff positioning:

  • TRU comes into the final weekend of the regular season with a 10-10 record and have already clinched a spot in the postseason but still have plenty to play for.
  • With two victories this weekend, the 'Pack could move up to as high as the fifth seed in the postseason but could fall as low as the eight seed if they lost both games.
  • Since the winter break, the WolfPack are just 3-7, although six of these losses have come to nationally ranked teams.

 Player of the year candidate:

  • Outside hitter Tim Dobbert has been exceptional all season long for the 'Pack, as he currently leads the conference in total kills with 347 which is 61 more than the next closest attacker.
  • With a strong final weekend, the transfer from BYU could move into the top-10 in terms of kills in a season in Canada West history.
  • Although assured of a post season berth, TRU will have four players suiting up for their final conference matches this weekend. Tim Dobbert along with Cole Hanson, and Isaac Smit will look forward to a playoff run in their final year.
