KELOWNA, BC - The UBC Okanagan Heat were defeated 3-0 by the Trinity Western University Spartans in women's soccer competition Sunday afternoon.

The Heat now hold a record of 2-4, and sit in 6th place in Canada West's Pacific Division, while the Spartans sit atop that Division with an improved record of 5-0-2.

All three goals of the match were scored in the first half, with three different Spartans getting on the board.

Third year Spartans forward Seina Kashima scored the first goal of the match, her second of the season, for Trinity Western in the 13th minute, putting away a pass into the 6-yard box from second year midfielder Rachel Hutchinson.

Hutchinson earned her next assist less than 30 seconds later, putting the ball onto the foot of Isabell Di Trocchio, who scored her third of the season by putting it to the right of Heat keeper Joella Koblischke.

The third goal came in the final minutes of the first half, with an awkward defensive play by the Heat leading to the ball being deflected into the arm of a UBC Okanagan defender. The ensuing call of a hand ball put Trinity Western's Stephanie Chin on the spot for the penalty kick, and she scored her first goal of the season with a strong shot to the bottom right corner.

The second half saw no more scoring from either side, with most of the play staying in near the midfield, with Trinity Western having most of the offensive opportunities. UBC Okanagan had good chances in the 48th and 54th minutes, from Ally Ferronato and Lindsey Berthelson respectively, but the Heat were unable to put anything past Spartans keeper Ally Williamson.

Williamson earned her fourth clean sheet of the season so far, making 2 saves.

The Spartans named Rachel Hutchinson their MVP for the match, while the Heat gave their MVP award on Sunday to Andrea Stinson.

The UBC Okanagan Heat (2-4) will play their next match on Friday, September 30 when they travel to Vancouver to play UBC (2-1-4). The Trinity Western Spartans (5-0-2) will play their next match that same day, when they host the only other undefeated side in the Pacific Division, the University of Alberta Pandas (4-0-2).
