KELOWNA, B.C.— The UBCO Heat fell short to the TRU WolfPack 2-1 on Sunday at Nonis Sports Field. The Heat generated nine of their 14 shots in the second half and finished even with the WolfPack with seven shots on goal.
For the Heat,
Megan Sun scored her first goal of the season, converting her lone penalty attempt while leading the team with five shots, including three on goal.
Eleni Georgacacos added four shots, with two reaching the target, while
Maria Georgacacos put both of her shot attempts on goal.
Allyson Ford finished with five saves in 90 minutes.
TRU's Sara Kuusimaki scored on her only shot and recorded the first goal, while Esi Lufo earned the game-winning goal and led TRU with four shots, including two on goal. Floor Ursem delivered six saves while playing all 90 minutes in goal.
UBCO generated five first-half shots, including four attempts and two corner kicks from Sun during a pressure stretch in which the WolfPack held the Heat off the scoresheet. TRU put six shots on goal, forcing four Ford saves before Kuusimaki and Lufo scored late to send UBCO into halftime down 2-0.
In the second half, UBCO outshot TRU 9-2, putting five attempts on goal and earning three corners while the WolfPack only had one shot on target. Sun converted an 86 minute penalty kick to pull UBCO within 2-1, but Ursem made four saves in the half as the Heat fell by that score.
Up next, the Heat will enjoy a by week before travelling to Vancouver, B.C., to face the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday, Sept. 18, at 5 p.m.
