KELOWNA, B.C. — The UBCO Heat dropped a 3-0 decision to the UBC Thunderbirds on Friday at Nonis Sports Field.
The Heat's Allyson Ford recorded 12 saves over 90 minutes in goal, making eight in the first half and four in the second. Maria Georgacacos led with six shots, including three on goal.
Jayda Thompson scored the game-winning goal for UBC, while Marilena Spagnolo made one save over 90 minutes to finish with a clean sheet.
UBC held a 14-5 advantage in first-half shots and forced Ford into eight saves, while UBCO matched the visitors with five corner kicks. The Heat earned four corners in a five-minute stretch and had Georgacacos twice denied by defensive saves. Thompson's goal in the 30 minute put UBC ahead 1-0 at halftime.
In the second half, the T-Birds scored twice, with Bailey Doerksen converting a penalty kick and Hannah Bains adding a goal from Maddy Norman to leave the Heat down 3-0. Ford made four saves in the half, while the Heat's clearest chance came on Georgacacos' penalty kick in the 60th minute, which Spagnolo stopped.
Up next, UBCO hosts the Thompson Rivers WolfPack on Sunday, Sept. 6, at noon at Nonis Sports Field where they are looking to add the first win of the Presidents' Cup.
