KELOWNA, B.C. — The UBCO Heat fell to the Trinity Western Spartans 3-1 on Thursday evening at Nonis Sports Field.
Will Armitage scored one goal from two shots, both of which were on target.
Carter Brown contributed by adding an assist to the team's effort.
Ronan Woodroffe, in goal, made four saves from seven shots faced.
Elijah Bean, Xander Roxburgh, and Jackson Van den Brink all found the back of the net for the Spartans. Meanwhile, Jordan Low provided a key assist, while Grant Verhoeven also added an assist, helping facilitate the team's scoring efforts.
The Heat took the lead in the first half with a decisive goal by Armitage in the 29th minute, assisted by Brown. The home team applied significant pressure, earning four corner kicks and taking seven shots, two of which were saved by TWU's goalkeeper, Jakob Frank. UBCO's defence held firm, with Woodroffe making three key saves to maintain their 1-0 advantage at halftime.
The Spartans seized control early in the second half, with Van den Brink scoring in the 47th minute, setting the tone for the visitors. Despite the Heat's efforts, including two corner kicks by
Allan Yin, TWU took the lead with goals from Bean in the 70th minute and Roxburgh in the 75th. This culminated in a 3-1 victory for the Spartans by the end of the half.
Looking ahead, the Heat will host the Victoria Vikes on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Nonis Sports Field.
