Heat face tough battle against No. 10 Spartans

KELOWNA, B.C. —  The UBCO Heat fell to the No. 10 TWU Spartans 6-0 on Friday at Nonis Sports Field. The Heat were held to five shots with one on goal, while the Spartans finished with 14 shots and nine on target.

Leading the Heat was Megan Sun, who delivered three shots including one on goal. Katie Chan recorded a defensive save. Kat McCleary played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with two saves in her second career start for the Heat.

For the Spartans, Sophie Crowther finished with one goal and four assists, while Luciana Andrews scored on two shots and Clara Chudley finding the back of the net on her lone shot attempt. Yasmine Pahal recorded a clean sheet with one save.

TWU generated more of the first-half pressure, finishing with eight credited attempts and four corner kicks while UBCO recorded three shots. The Heat kept the match scoreless through majority of the half, with McCleary and Chan making saves, but the visitors later took a 2-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Spartans scored four times, while the Heat were held to two shot attempts. Crowther was involved in all four Spartans' goals after halftime, assisting three and scoring once, as the visitors finished off a 6-0 result. McCleary made one second-half save for UBCO.

Up next, the Heat travel to Victoria, B.C., to face the Victoria Vikes on Sunday, Oct. 4, at 1 p.m.
