Heat unable to keep pace with top-ranked Vikes

Jalen Shirley finished the game with 14 points to move closer towards setting the Heat's single-season and career scoring records

KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBCO Heat men's basketball team (3-14) faced a tough challenge against the U SPORTS No. 1-ranked Victoria Vikes (16-2), ending with a 106-57 loss at the UBCO Gymnasium on Friday night. 

Jalen Shirley led the Heat with 14 points, shooting 6-for-16, and also snagged three steals. Mike Adarkwah-Nti contributed 12 points, flawlessly converting all six of his free-throw attempts. Mathias Schertzer matched Shirley with three steals and added three rebounds. Julien Malfair chipped in with seven rebounds and five points, including a three-pointer.

Victoria's Tyler Felt was unstoppable with 21 points, hitting 8 of 10 shots and 3 of 4 from beyond the arc. Ryan Gallagher added 22 points, making all six of his three-point attempts, while also pulling down seven rebounds and dishing out five assists.

Up next, the Heat will take on the Trinity Western Spartans on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 8 p.m. at the UBCO Gymnasium.

- Shirley is now just 67 points away from setting UBCO's career scoring record, with three games left.
- He also needs 24 points in his final three games to surpass his own single-season scoring record.
