ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — The UBC Okanagan Heat men's soccer team (0-3-1) fell by a score of 4-0 to the UFV Cascades (2-1-1) on Saturday night at Rotary Stadium.
The first half saw UFV take an early lead when Kevin Mailand scored in the opening minute of play, assisted by Michael Beecroft.
The Heat responded with several attempts to level the score, including shots from
Jaise Shaw and
Alex Sol, but UFV goalkeeper Matheus De Souza made key saves to keep his team ahead at halftime.
The second half began with UFV maintaining aggressive play, leading to a goal by Michael Beecroft in the 58th minute, assisted by Mailand, bringing the score to 2-0. UFV would add two more tallies courtesy of Mateo Brazinha to come away with the victory.
Shaw registered two shots on goal, leading his team in offensive pressure.
Ronan Woodroffe, as goalkeeper, made three saves across 90 minutes, facing seven shots on target.
Varun Kothary contributed defensively with one defensive save while also taking a shot that was on target.
Looking ahead, the Heat will return home to face the Calgary Dinos on Friday, September 12. The action kicks off at 5:30 p.m. at Nonis Sports Field.
