DUPONT, Wash. –
Ryan Vest and the UBCO Heat men's golf team got their 2025 fall schedule off to a strong start this weekend as they finish tied for third place at the Bishop Invitational, an NCAA Division II event hosted by the Saint Mary's Saints at The Home Course.
Vest, a second-year transfer who returned to the Okanagan after a year with the Western Washington Vikings in the NCAA, was spectacular in his Heat debut as he shot nine-under par 207 over the three-round event to finish in solo second place.
The Vernon native carded an impressive 15 birdies over three rounds, compared to just five bogeys and one double bogey. His best round was his middle round as he posted a five-under par 67 to vault himself into contention for the individual title.
Rookie
Oakley Mayner also had a strong debut for the Heat as he tied for 11
th place at three-under par 213 thanks to a round of four-under par 68 in his final round on Saturday.
Two other members of the Heat finished at even par or better including 2024 Canada West Champion
Ryan Gillis who shot one-under par 215 to finish 20
th while second-year
Chris Jo tied for 21
st at even-par 216.
Thanks to their great all-around team play, UBCO tied with Westminster at 15-under par 849 for third place out of 15 teams competing. Simon Fraser finished in first place at 20-under par 844 after winning a tiebreak against Western Washington, who matched their score over two days.
The Heat will be right back in action starting on Monday, September 29 as they compete in the Western Washington Invitational at Bellingham Golf and Country Club in Bellingham, Wash.
