BATHURST, N.B. – Incoming UBC Okanagan Heat men's golf recruit Oakley Mayner wrapped up an impressive summer season with a second-place finish at the 2025 Canadian Junior Boys Championship on Friday.
Competing at the Gowan Brae Golf and Country Club, Mayner, a native of Kelowna, vaulted himself into contention for the championship thanks to a tournament-low six-under 64 in the third round. He would close the event with a two-under par 68 to finish at seven-under par 273 for the week, five shots clear of third-place.
Dawson Lew took home the championship at 11-under par 269.
The event wrapped up an impressive summer for the Kelowna Secondary graduate. Mayner also claimed a second-place finish at the BC Junior Championship in July before tying for ninth at the BC Amateur Championship.
Fellow incoming Heat recruit Russell Quinn from St. Albert, Alta., also made the cut at the event, finishing in a tie for 48
th at 12-over par 292.
Mayner and Quinn will have their first chance to compete for UBCO when the Heat compete in the Bishop Invitational on September 26 and 27 in DuPont, Wash.
