HEAT THIS WEEK: Men’s soccer returns to Nonis Field to host Calgary and Lethbridge

Women's soccer and softball hit the road in regular season action while women's volleyball opens their preseason in Victoria

KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's soccer team takes center stage this week with a pair of games on their home turf. Meanwhile, women's soccer hits the road for a single game on Friday while softball and women's volleyball will both be in action in Victoria, B.C.

The Heat (0-3-1) return to Nonis this weekend as they look to add wins to their record hosting two Prairie Division teams, the Dinos (3-2) for Hawaiian Night and the Pronghorns (1-1-2) on Saturday.

In their matchup against Trinity Western (2-3-1) last weekend, the squad secured a draw against the Spartans off an equalizer from Gavin La Montagne, his first goal of the season, assisted by Oliver Deveau. Keeper Ronan Woodroffe stood out, making six saves to preserve the tie, while moving into 11th all-time in Canada West history for career saves with 209.

 UBCO has faired well against both Calgary and Lethbridge in the past, owning a 2-2-0 record against the Dinos and a 2-0-2 mark against Lethbridge.

Women's soccer (1-2-1) is travelling this weekend for a single game against the UNBC Timberwolves (0-6), looking to build off their win from the UFV Cascades last weekend. 

In that victory, the Heat struck early with Neala Peters earning her first goal of the season in the 11th minute off a setup from Abigail Taneda. Talia Gagnon stood out once again, recording another clean sheet, her second of the season.

UBCO has had a good run of form against the Timberwolves the last number of seasons, having won five of their last six matchups dating back to 2022.

Women's Volleyball
September 12th vs. Thompson Rivers WolfPack - 7:00 p.m. - Victoria, B.C.
September 13th vs. Thompson Rivers WolfPack - 5:00 p.m. - Victoria, B.C.

Women's volleyball kicks off their 2025-26 preseason on the road this weekend with two matches against the WolfPack in Victoria. The games will be a homecoming for Heat players Ava Dahl, Avery Kerr and Olivia Boulding who grew up on Vancouver Island. 

With two new faces in their lineup and many veterans, this tournament will give head coach Steve Manuel an early look at his roster.

Women's softball is back on the road again this weekend, heading to Victoria for five games in two days. 


The Heat carry a 6-4 record heading into the trip after their first home stand of the season last weekend. Maddy Roeseler earned Athlete of the Week honours after recording seven putouts, five assists, and turning a double play. She also contributed offensively with three hits in 14 plate appearances, scoring three runs and driving in one.

Historically, the Heat hold a 6-0 record against the Cougars, a 9-8-2 edge over Victoria, and a 5-2 mark against the Trojans.
