KELOWNA, B.C. - It's Homecoming weekend at UBC Okanagan as the Heat women's soccer team plays host to the U SPORTS No.-1 ranked UBC Thunderbirds on Friday night at Nonis Sports Field. Five other UBCO teams will be in action on the road as regular season play starts up for men's rugby and women's golf, while men's soccer and softball continue their seasons. Women's basketball gets their 2025-26 preseason schedule underway against three OUA opponents.

Women's soccer returns to Kelowna for a single match this Homecoming Friday, September 19th, to take on their rivals, the U SPORTS No. 1-ranked UBC Thunderbirds (7-0).
The Heat (2-2-1) will come into the match with momentum after their 6-0 victory over the UNBC Timberwolves (0-7-0) last weekend. Six players found the back of the net, including first career goals from Caitlyn Chiu, Haden Thomas, and Maria Georgacacos. Rookie Neala Peters added her second of the season, while Goalkeeper Allyson Ford played her first start, ending with a clean sheet. Abigail Taneda also picked up her third assist of the season, moving her into second place in Canada West for assists this season.
Friday's match will be a tough one, but with the energy from last weekend's win and the fuel of the Homecoming crowd, the team will be ready for the test against the T-Birds.

Women's basketball tips off their 2025-26 preseason schedule this weekend in Ontario.
This will give Head Coach Bobby Mitchell an early-season opportunity to assess where his team stands. UBCO has a number of new faces in their lineup this season, highlighted by NCAA transfer Kanani Coon, and he'll be looking to see how they perform against some of the better teams in the OUA.

Men's rugby hits the road for their first matches of the 2025 season with a pair of games in Calgary.
The Heat will be looking to get their season off to a strong start coming off their Prairies U Championship and sixth place finish at nationals a season ago. Last season, the Heat defeated both Calgary and SAIT during the regular season, winning those matches 24-19 and 57-7 respectively.

Women's softball hits the road again this weekend, heading to Lethbridge for five games over two days.
The Heat are rolling with an 11-4 record after a strong showing last weekend in Victoria. They swept SAIT (1-13-1) with back-to-back shutouts, winning 13-0 and 17-0 in games that only lasted 4 innings each. Cheyanne Simicak was lights out, hitting .733 with a 1.600 slugging percentage, three home runs, which included a grand slam.
With just two weekends remaining before the WCSA Championship in Calgary, the Heat will look to keep their momentum going as they take on their matchups in Lethbridge.

The men are on the road this weekend up in Edmonton, taking on the Alberta Golden Bears (2-3-2) and the MacEwan Griffins (0-5-2).
Last weekend, Ronan Woodroffe cracked the top 10 all-time for career saves in Canada West history, while Oliver Deveau was the team's lone goal scorer, scoring the first goal of his Heat career in Friday's matchup against Calgary (5-2).
The Heat will feel confident heading with history on their side as they head into their matchup against MacEwan. They hold a 3-0-2 record against the Griffins, including a 2-0 victory in their most recent meeting back in 2022.
Women's Golf
September 22nd - 23rd - Grisham Memorial Shootout - The Home Course - DuPont, Wash.
Women's golf begins their fall season by travelling across the border to the Home Course in Dupont, WA, for an NCAA Division II event hosted by the Saint Martin's Saints. As they prepare for the Canada West Golf Championship in Chilliwack in early October, they aim for a fifth consecutive podium finish dating back to last season.
Third-year management student Julia Alexander-Carew had a successful summer and looks to continue her streak of success after adding another title to her Heat career, having won gold at the 2025 Golf Canada Canadian University/College championship. The Heat will potentially have some new faces in their lineup as they have five rookies on their roster this season, including Kiana Chen, Shinyao Zhang, Jordan Harvey, Raina Riml and Izzy Schwager.
