Andrew Rouble finishes in a tie for fifth place as Heat move up five spots in final round of NCAA Division II tournament

GOODYEAR, Ariz. – The UBC Okanagan Heat men's golf team fired the best team-round of the tournament on Tuesday to move up five spots on the team leadership and earn a sixth-place finish at the Maverick Desert Classic, an NCAA Division II event hosted at Palm Valley Golf Club.

After shooting 12-over par 300 in the opening round on Monday, the Heat were on fire in round two, combining to post 15 birdies and an eagle in posting a team-total of one-over par 289. That performance vaulted them from 11th into a tie for sixth-place with Minnesota State's 'B' team and Augustana's 'A' team.

Concordia (St. Paul) won the tournament at seven-over par 583, just six strokes ahead of UBCO.

Leading the way on the second day was third-year Andrew Rouble who carded four birdies and a bogey en route to a three-under par 69. The performance moved him up 19 spots on the individual leaderboard as he finished tied for fifth-place at one-under par 143.

Teammate Ryan Gillis joined him inside the Top 10 on the individual leaderboard as he finished tied for ninth at even-par 144 after a round of two-over par 74 on Tuesday.

Rookie Thomas Lemay was the biggest mover in the 83-man field in the final round, vaulting up 38 spots into a tie for 24th after shooting two-under par 70 to finish at four-over par 148.

The Heat will return home to Kelowna but will be back in Arizona in two weeks' time as they will compete in a pair of Arizona Spring Break Invitational. The first event will be held on March 22 and 23 at the Verrado Golf Club in Buckeye followed by the second event at the Estrella Golf Club in Goodyear from March 24 to 25.
