KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The UBCO Heat men's soccer team fell to the Thompson Rivers WolfPack by a score of 2-1 at Hillside Stadium on Saturday.
The Heat took the early lead in the Presidents' Cup showdown in the 21st minute when
Jaise Shaw scored with an assist from
Matteo Clarke, marking Shaw's third goal of the season.
Despite several attempts by both teams, including a saved shot from Shaw at the 23rd minute and a blocked shot by Matheus Lucas at the 37th minute, the half ended with UBCO holding a 1-0 advantage.
Thompson Rivers would respond in the second half with Matheus Lucas scoring in the 70th minute, assisted by Ben Finley, leveling the match at 1-1.
Just over a minute later, Lachlan Will capitalized on the momentum shift, scoring his second goal of the season to give Thompson Rivers a 2-1 lead.
UBCO's attempts to equalize were thwarted, with shots by
Malachi Emerson and
Alex Sol blocked and saved, respectively. Despite late efforts, the Heat could not find the net, and the match concluded with a 2-1 victory for Thompson Rivers.
Shaw led the Heat's offence by scoring one goal while taking four shots, three of which were on target. Clarke contributed by recording an assist, adding to the team's attacking efforts. In goal, Woodroffe made three saves, facing five shots on target throughout the match.
The two squads will rematch on Saturday, October 11 as the Heat look to even the 2025-26 men's Presidents' Cup at a win apiece. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
