KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The UBCO Heat men's soccer team was defeated by Thompson Rivers WolfPack by a 3-1 scoreline at Hillside Stadium on Saturday.
Thompson Rivers secured the win with two second-half goals, despite an eight-save performance from
Ronan Woodroffe.
The match between the Heat and the WolfPack started with both teams showing intent to gain early control. Thompson Rivers took the lead in the 21st minute with Abdel Coulibaly's goal, assisted by Matheus Lucas, marking Coulibaly's third goal of the season.
UBCO responded in the 31st minute when
Andrew Matsugu equalized, assisted by
Allan Yin, leveling the score at 1-1.
Throughout the half,
Ronan Woodroffe made several key saves for the Heat, notably stopping shots from Lachlan Will and Ben Finley, keeping the game tied as the first half concluded.
The second half saw Thompson Rivers jump ahead early, starting with a goal from Ben Finley in the 54th minute, assisted by Lachlan Will.
Jaise Shaw tested the Thompson Rivers defence with a shot saved by goalkeeper Toran Rutherford at the 57th minute mark.
Despite the Heat's efforts, including a defensive save by
Matteo Clarke and multiple shots on goal, they were unable to find the back of the net.
Thompson Rivers secured their victory with another goal from Finley in the 87th minute, assisted by Ryan Prasad.
Matsugu found the net once from his single shot on goal, marking a standout performance. Yin contributed with an assist, while also attempting two shots himself. Shaw created scoring opportunities with two shots, one of which was on goal.
In their next game, UBCO will defend their home turf at Nonis Sports Field against the UFV Cascades as they kick off their final weekend of regular season action. The match is set for Saturday, October 18 with kickoff at 1 p.m.
