Foullong's record night steers women's basketball to win over Bisons

Lauren Foullong tied the Canada West record for most three's in a game, helping her team set a program record for most points in a game in a 95-83 win on Friday night

WINNIPEG - Nine three-pointers from Lauren Foullong tied a Canada West single-game record as the visiting UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team topped the Manitoba Bisons 95-83 Friday evening at the Investors Group Athletic Centre.

Foullong, a third-year guard, drained 9-of-14 attempts from deep, setting a new career-high with 29 points in the process, leading her team to a new-program record with 95 points in a game. The Orangeville, Ont., native also set a UBCO record with 29 points off the bench, breaking a mark which stood for more than 12 years when Krystal Schouten scored 20 points in a game off the bench back on November 24, 2012.
The Heat got another monster outing from their star forward Jaeli Ibbetson (Kelowna, B.C.) who finished one-assist shy of a triple-double. Ibbetson, a fourth-year, would end the match with 17 points, 21 boards and nine helpers. It marked Ibbetson's second 20-plus rebound game this season and third of her career, as she recorded her conference leading 12th double-double of the campaign to firmly plant herself in the conversation for conference player of the year.

Despite the Heat's offensive output, the Bisons provided a valiant effort with their third highest scoring game of the season. Leading Manitoba's attack were a pair of local Winnipeg products in Emily Johnson and Lauren Bartlett. Johnson scored 17 points, adding nine assists and seven rebounds while Bartlett poured in a team-high 20 to go along with her five boards and four assists.

The Heat were able to out-score the high-flying Bisons, dominating on the offensive glass and from beyond the arc. UBCO won the rebound game 58-34 and had eight more threes than the Bisons, shooting 50 percent from long range.

Rounding out the Heat's offence were guards Sofia Ainsa Lluch (Mahon, Spain) and Temi Aina (Kamloops, B.C.). Lluch, a fifth-year, scored 16 points to go with eight rebounds and seven assists while rookie Temi Aina layed in a career-best 11 points off 5-of-8 shooting.

TOP PERFORMERS
Lauren Foullong - UBCO Heat

Her nine made threes smashed UBCO's program record of six, as she became the first player in the conference to make nine treys in a game in over eight years. Foullong joins a exclusive club of just four players to ever hit nine threes in a Canada West match, which includes Winnipeg's Caitlin Gooch (Feb. 12, 2011), Brandon's Cassie Cooke (Nov. 28, 2013) and Trinity Western's Jessie Brown (Nov. 20, 2015).

Jaeli Ibbetson - UBCO Heat
Known for her double-double abilities, Ibbetson nearly etched her name in the record books falling just one assist shy of a triple double. No Heat player has ever achieved a triple-double, while only eight players have recorded such a night in the conference's history.

WHERE THEY SIT
The win, their third in a row, sees the Heat improve to 10-9 this season while the Bisons fall to 6-13 as their two game winning streak comes to an end.

UP NEXT
UBCO continues to chase history tomorrow as they shoot for a program-record 11th win in a single season in a rematch against Manitoba. The game tips-off at 3 p.m. Pacific from Winnipeg. Catch the action on CanadaWest.tv.
