KELOWNA, B.C. - In Saturday's rematch between the UBC Okanagan Heat and MacEwan Griffins women's basketball teams, the hosts stormed out of the gates with 30 points in the opening en route to a 78-56 win at the UBCO Gymnasium.
Prior to the game, the Heat honoured graduating players
Sofia Ainsa Lluch (Mahon, Spain),
Jaeli Ibbetson (Kelowna, B.C.) and
Rachel Hettinga (Kelowna, B.C.) as the trio made their final appearances on home court.
Shooting 62 percent from the floor in the first quarter, the Heat found themselves with a 20-point lead, ensuring they would send their seniors off with a weekend sweep.
Ainsa Lluch would finish the night with 18 points, three rebounds and two assists. Ibbetson who broke UBCO's single season rebounding mark in the match, recorded 21 points with 16 boards and four helpers. Hettinga chipped in five points and four rebounds.

Jaeli Ibbetson - UBCO Heat
The fourth-year forward recorded her 11th double-double this season with 21 points and 16 rebounds. It was another impressive outing from Ibbetson who ups her averages to 17.4 points and 12.2 rebounds per game this season, both Top 4 in Canada West, placing her firmly in the conversation as one of the top players in the conference this season.
Makenzie Reeve - MacEwan Griffins
Reeve knocked down all five of her three-point attempts, going off for a team-high 17 points. The Sherwood Park, Alta., product would also add three rebounds and three assists.
WHERE THEY SIT
The win completes the sweep for UBCO and marks their fourth straight over MacEwan in regular season play. It also clinches the Heat a berth in the Canada West playoffs, as they move to 9-9, four wins up on the 13th place Winnipeg Wesmen with just two games to go. The loss for the Griffins is their seventh consecutive as they fall to 1-17.
