Porter top track finisher at Pandas Open; Lloyd wins Starting Block 10k

The UBCO Heat cross country/track team competed in a pair of events this past weekend in Edmonton and Lavington

KELOWNA, B.C. - Kyle Porter took home bronze in the men's 3000m this past weekend at the 2024 Pandas Open while Owen Lloyd finished first in the Starting Block 10k as the UBC Okanagan Heat cross country and track teams wrapped up a busy weekend of action.

The cross-country team's successful finish in the Starting Block 10k out in Lavington, B.C. saw Heat runners Owen Lloyd, Connor Baerg, Christopher Crowe, Isaac Baker and Charlie Kanuka occupy the top four spots overall. Emma Kearns and Kate Milne finished as the top two in the women's side oof the event.

Along with Porter's podium, he also placed well in the 1500m with a seventh place finish. Brooke Lawlor (Vernon, B.C.) also found a Top 10 finish in Edmonton, crossing the line in eighth in the women's 3000m.

The Heat will now turn their attention to the Canada West Track and Field Championships set for February 23 and 24 in Edmonton.
