LANGLEY, B.C. – UBC Okanagan men's soccer goalkeeper
Ronan Woodroffe set a new team record for most saves in a season as the Heat fell 3-1 to the Trinity Western Spartans on Friday night.
Woodroffe, a native of Toronto, made nine saves in the contest, giving him 73 on the season. That mark surpasses the previous record of 68 set by Nicholas Reitsma back in 2019.
The nine saves also ties him for the second most in a single game in school history, one behind the record of 10 set by Christopher Cuthill in 2014.
Despite Woodroffe's best efforts, the host Spartans still managed three goals on the evening, including two from Emmanuel Adokiene of Calgary. Charles Nana of Calgary would add a single for Trinity Western.
Rookie
Aidan Synnuck of Sidney, B.C., responded for the Heat with his first career tally.
The loss drops the Heat to 2-7-3 on the season, seven points behind the Spartans (5-4-1) for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Pacific division.
The Heat will return to action on Sunday, October 5 in a must-win game against the UFV Cascades. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. and the game can be seen live on CanadaWest.tv.
