Men's volleyball falls in straight sets to No. 10 Thunderbirds

A number of new faces got an opportunity to shine on the court for the Heat on Friday night, led by Stephen Searcy and Adam Einarson

KELOWNA, B.C. - Depth players got an opportunity to earn their stripes on Saturday night as a change in lineup for the UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball provided an opportunity to showcase their skill during their showdown with the U SPORTS No. 10-ranked UBC Thunderbirds at the UBCO Gymnasium.

Stephen Searcy a third-year outside hitter from Penticton, B.C., had a notable game putting down a career-high seven kills paired with a service ace and four digs. After his performance on the court, Searcy earned himself player of the game honours.
In the first two sets of the match, the Thunderbirds capitalized on their early point streaks to take control of the match.

During the final set of the night, the Heat kept the pressure on with a kill from Adam Einarson a second-year outside hitter from Lake Country, B.C., that gave the Heat an advantage early on with a cross-court kill.
Despite a late push by the Heat in the final set, the Thunderbirds came away with the three-set victory.

The third-year outside hitter had a strong performance for the Heat, earning seven kills accompanied by his first service ace as a Heat player, rightfully earning himself Player of the Game

The second-year outside hitter led his team in kills tonight putting down a total of 11, alongside four service aces, earning 17 points for the Thunderbirds.

WHERE THEY STAND
The Heat's record now sits at 1-13 while the No. 10-ranked Thunderbirds improve to 10-4.

The Heat are back at home next weekend as they face off against the Calgary Dinos in an action-packed weekend doubleheader. Their first game is on January 12th at 7 p.m. at the UBCO Gymnasium in Kelowna, B.C. Fans can purchase tickets at the door or catch the action live on CanadaWest.tv.
