Men's volleyball drops decision to Calgary

In the first game of the double header weekend, a tight battle went in favour of the Dinos

KELOWNA, B.C. - The UBC Okanagan Heat men's volleyball team dropped a three-set decision to the Calgary Dinos on Saturday night at the UBCO Gymnasium.

In the first set of the match, the Dinos proved dominant at the net going on an early four-point streak. The Heat were unable to match the Dinos' runs in the set and ultimately dropped the opener 25-18.

In the evening's final two sets, the home team made it clear they were not going down without a fight.  Keeping the score tight and playing some strong defence, fifth-year Teo Ardanaz of Tsawwassen, B.C., paired with third-year Zach van Geel of Calgary, put up a massive block to bring the scoring square halfway through the second.
Despite a strong Heat presence, a three-serve point streak from middle Louis Kuntsmann proved what the Dinos needed to capture the second-set victory.

In a battle to the bitter end, the Heat continued to fight in the third set and once again, their blocking prowess shone through with Seba Manuel of Kelowna, B.C., showing his skills at the net.

A big swing from third-year Erik Godwin sealed the deal for the  Dinos as his team took the match in three sets.
