SASKATOON, Sask. - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's soccer team added another first to a season that has already had so many on Sunday as they earned their first-ever victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies thanks to a 3-2 win on the road.
The Heat came to play early in this contest, led by their leading scorer Stefanie Young of Kelowna, B.C. The third-year midfielder added to her record-breaking season as she opened the scoring in the 13th minute giving UBCO a one-goal lead at halftime.
Young continued her scoring exploits in the second half, scoring three minutes after the restart before adding the eventual game-winning goal on a beautiful 25-yard strike in the 63rd minute to complete her second hat-trick of the season.
Alyssa D'Agnone of Lethbridge, Alta., added a pair of second half tallies of her own for the Huskies but it wasn't enough on the afternoon as the hosts saw their win streak snapped at four games.
Heat second-year keeper Talia Gagnon of Dieppe, N.B., earned her fourth win of the season, making six saves.
TOP PERFORMERS
Stefanie Young - UBCO
Young continued her outstanding form in 2023, moving into sole possession of first place on the goal scoring leaderboard in Canada West as she now has nine goals in seven games this season. She is also tied for first place in goal scoring across U SPORTS, even with StFX's Amanda Smith.
Alyssa D'Agnone - SASK
A second brace on the season for the third-year forward leaves her with four goals on the season.
WHERE THEY SIT
Following the victory, the Heat advance to a 4-1-2 standing as they are tied with the UFV Cascades for second place in the Canada West Pacific division. As for the Huskies, they fall to 4-2-0 on the year and sit third in the Prairie division.

The Heat will be back on home turf next weekend as they compete against the Calgary Dinos to kick off Homecoming Weekend at Nonis Sports Field on Friday, September 22. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. and tickets to the game are free for all fans.
