Women's volleyball handed three set loss by No. 8 Bisons

Madison Gardner puts up strong performance for Heat in setback against Manitoba

WINNIPEG - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's volleyball team opened up their final weekend doubleheader of 2023 with a three set loss to the U SPORTS No. 8-ranked Manitoba Bisons on Friday night.

Coming into the match with six serving aces so far on the season, Madison Gardner, the second year product of Vernon, B.C., elevated her tally to eight and secured an early lead for the Heat with consecutive aces early in the set.

Both teams would go on runs throughout the remainder of the set as it came down to the final couple of points. Raya Surinx of Winnipeg, would score a key kill late to give Manitoba set point and they would take it on an error on the next rally to claim the opening frame.

Building on the momentum gained from the previous set victory, the Bisons seized early leads in the following two sets, never relenting their advantage to win the match in straight sets.
