WINNIPEG - The UBC Okanagan Heat women's volleyball team wrapped up the 2023 portion of their schedule with a three-set loss to the U SPORTS No. 8 Manitoba Bisons on Saturday night.
The host Bisons were in control of the match from the opening serve, led by second-year outside hitter Raya Surinx of Winnipeg. Surinx would post 21 kills and two aces to help her team win in straight sets.
The Heat were led by the duo ofÂ
Madison Gardner of Vernon, B.C., and Korey Jenkins of Calgary who led the way with six kills each.Â
TOP PERFORMERS
Madison Gardner - UBCO
The second-year middle notched six kills for the second straight night as she hit .500 in the match while adding a block for 6.5 points.
Raya Surinx - Manitoba
The second-year outside hitter was dominant again for the Bisons, hitting .613 for 21 kills off 31 attacks while adding two aces for 23 points.
WHERE THEY SIT
With the loss, the Heat head into the holiday break with a 5-7 record while Manitoba improves to 10-2 on the year thus far.
UP NEXT
The Heat will be back in action in January as they return home to face their sister-school rivals, the UBC Thunderbirds, on Friday, January 5. Action gets underway at 5 p.m. from the UBCO Gymnasium and tickets to the game will be available at the door.
