KELOWNA, B.C. - A monster night from fourth-year forward
Jaeli Ibbetson helped the UBC Okanagan Heat women's basketball team to a 82-55 win over the UNBC Timberwolves Friday evening at UBCO Gymnasium.
18 points, 20 rebounds, and seven assists was the stat line for Ibbetson, a local of Kelowna, B.C., as she recorded her fifth double-double of the season - tied for the most in the conference this season. She became the first player in the conference to get her hands on 20-plus rebounds this season and on top of that, her seven helpers are the most by a Heat athlete this year.
Bobby Mitchell, UBCO's Head Coach spoke on his team's victory and strong individual efforts saying, "this was a good team win overall, lots of players stepped up for us. Jaeli was one of those players, she impacted the game at both ends of the floor, she looked determined tonight".
The Heat also got strong outings from
Rachel Hettinga (Kelowna, B.C.),
Lauren Foullong (Orangeville, Ont.) and
Kelsey Falk (Vernon, B.C.) who all finished in double-digit scoring. All 13 of Foullong's points came in the game's opening half, while Falk's 14 were all scored in the second half. Hettinga's 15 points set a new career-high for the senior guard, who knocked down 6-of-13 shots from the field.
The Heat fired a season-best .452 percent from the floor in the win, outscoring the T-Wolves in all four quarters of the match.
